Intone the Verses - A Word about our Feast Programs
Thank you for considering using our Feast programs. The writings we have chosen are designed to both conform to the
attribute of God the month is named after and to inspire the friends to service and teaching. We tried to include, within the
constraints of that Name of God, writings and prayers from each of the Central Figures, and also at least part of a talk of the
Master, and we aimed at finding unusual writings you might not hear all the time to make it even more interesting.
We also made sure not one writing or prayer has been repeated in any of the programs all year so each Feast program is
unique. The prayers, as much as possible, have been chosen to address God by "we" or "us" since this is communal worship.
There are three settings of the writings to be sung by everyone (or listened to) at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of
the spiritual portion.
They are specifically chosen to go with the name of the month and contribute to the sense of reverence. The extra song to end
the business portion and start the social portion usually has a lighter tone and is not necessarily related to the name of the
month but may go with the season and is designed to inspire the friends to enjoy fellowship and unity and inspire them for
service.
Our programs have been tested "live," so we know they're paced well. You could add an opportunity for community prayers
at the end of the spiritual portion, but we don't recommend this as it tends to make the Feast too long, and we really need time
for consultation. Since we have other devotional meetings these days, there are appropriate occasions for the friends to pray
their own prayers together for whatever their hearts desire. We hope you enjoy this new way to enjoy Bahá'í prayers and
writings at your next Feast. - Warmly, Wendy Scott
