Here is a collection of settings of Bahá'í Writings that we don't believe have ever been set to music before. Songs 1 through 4 are designed mainly for the beginning of a meeting (they are invocations), Songs 5 through 8 could be sung during a meeting, and Songs 9 through 15 are appropriate for the end (they are benedictions) although there are no hard and fast rules. All are based on the words of Bahá'u'lláh, the Báb, or 'Abdu'l-Bahá, except for Song 15. Since it is a setting of words of Shoghi Effendi, it should not be included in the spiritual portion of the Feast but would be fine at the end of the business portion or at any other appropriate time. As these songs are sung again and again, we learn the words and they become part of us. These songs express many of the most sublime thoughts and ideals found in the Bahá'í writings and should help us all feel a sense of reverence and appreciation for guidance we have been given by God. They also have musical diversity: there are songs written in various cultural styles. Some are prayers. ~ Wendy Scott |

Here is a collection of Bahá’í songs starting with a jubilant a setting of passages from the Naw-Rúz prayer, three different settings of Bahá’u’lláh’s words appropriate for each Holy Day during Ridván, plus a benediction that can be used on all those days or any Holy Day honoring Bahá’u’lláh. A setting of the last two paragraphs of the Prayer for Protection of the Báb was chosen for the Declaration of the Báb. The Unseen World Crieth Out is a meditation that will help us ponder the import of Bahá’u’lláh’s life at His Ascension observances. There is a meditative benediction set of the Báb’s words to commemorate His Martyrdom, which could also be used on the Báb’s other Holy Days. A new version of the Remover of Difficulties with a wonderful lightness works well for His Birthday, while The Best-Beloved is Come will add joy to Bahá’u’lláh’s Birthday celebration. Consecration, a setting of words by Shoghi Effendi, is a benediction for the Day of the Covenant. For the Ascension of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, in gratitude for such an incredible life, a song of thanksgiving in both His words and those of Bahá’u’lláh, which also works for Thanksgiving Day for those in the United States and has been sung by the participants at interfaith Thanksgiving services. We even threw in a Christmas bonus, a familiar carol though based on words of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá and quite appropriate to our purposes and to the spirit of the song itself. At last, we have an Ayyám-i-Há Prayer that is joyful and expresses the reverence and significance of those days and finally, a song for the Fast, Divine Springtime, though of course this song would also be a fine benediction at the end of a Naw-Rúz or Ridván observance, or for any other fitting occurrence. ~ Wendy Scott |
